I often get asked the question “so what does Firstborn mean anyway?”. When deciding what to name my then hobby / future business I knew I wanted it to actually mean something to me. It had to resonate. I tried on many possibilities but kept coming back to Firstborn.

I happen to be the firstborn and I also just like the way it looks + sounds. But, the true meaning is that the impetus for all of this happened after I had my firstborn, my son Maxwell. Motherhood broke me a part and made me whole again and as I put the pieces back together, I arranged them a little differently. Healing old traumas made space for new experiences.

In the years between the birth of my son and the birth of my business I worked towards a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. After a particularly grueling semester I took a jewelry class at a local art studio to nurture my creative side. It just clicked and soon it was all I wanted to do. I never intended to become a full time jewelry maker, but here I am. Grateful and in awe of all your support.
